Training

The best way to train for a long distance cycle is (as you may have guessed) just to cycle as much as you can, every day if possible.

So I am doing just that! I've loaded my panniers with 4 x 2 litre bottles (2 on each side) and a few extra bits to roughly match what I'll be carrying in weight along my trans-America route, and I'm getting out on my bike every day or burning out on the gym stationary bikes when I wimp out of cycling in the rain! I'm also swimming a couple of times a week to help relax my muscles.

For my evening meal I try to have a carb or protein based dinner, such as pasta or an omelette, to help me recover for the next day, and I also have some SIS Rego milkshake powders for when my legs really start to ache!

As finals revision boredom turns into finals revision procrastination, I'll try to get out for longer and longer rides. Then once exams are out of the way I'll pack all my actual equipment and saddle up for as many full day rides as I can fit in before the 16th!

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog for my bicycle travels across the US from New York to San Francisco!
You can find all the info in the above tabs, including details about how you can donate to help raise money for Macmillan.
I will be updating this blog daily from the 16th July onwards with my progress for the day, and I'll also post up details of how my training is going over the next couple of months. I will be keeping a Facebook page going with more pictures along the way.
Subscribe and stay tuned!
