Day 27: Cruising Casper

I started the day mending a puncture on my rear tyre. A metal staple on the road just before getting into Casper yesterday got caught in my tyre and I had to pull it out. Luckily, the tyre held up the last few miles until I got here and it probably deflated overnight. Still, 2 punctures in 2000 miles is pretty good going! Once I'd pulled the tube out I found 2 pieces of metal staple on opposite ends of the tyre and two holes in the tube. I'll have to be more careful and watch out for these staples in future!

I cycled leisurely into town to find my supplies for the next few days or so. Some more protein recovery powder, food and apples were on the list. I also stopped at an Arby's for lunch where I had one of their 'mega meat stacks', an inordinate amount of meat between two slices of bread. Fast food that's actually quite nice!

After stocking up, I stumbled onto a old railway line converted into a bike path that led me down to the river. A steady ride with some lovely views of the rapids and mountains, then a lap of the golf course and I headed back to the apartment to relax (via a petrol station to get ice cream!).

When Sheila returned she started making zucchini (courgette) lasagna for dinner which smelled and tasted amazing. Such generous hosts and with a wedding on the horizon I wish them all the best in their married life.

An early night tonight for an early start tomorrow, my longest ride of the entire trip. Its going to involve a lot of climbing, gulp!
